Describe how a pure sample of lead (ii) Sulphate can be prepared in the laboratory starting with lead metal

- Heat the lead metal in an open crucible to form the lead oxide.
- Add excess lead oxide to warm dilute nitric (v) acid and stir
- Filter to obtain the filtrate which is lead (II) nitrate.
- React the lead (II) nitrate with sodium sulphate solution. (or sulphuric acid and any soluble sulphate).
- Filter to obtain precipitate which is lead (II) sulphate.
- Wash the precipitate with distilled water
- Dry the precipitate between two filter papers.
